DONATIONS GO TOWARDS
Summer School
Sunny View will not have an on- site summer school due to playground construction!
Sunny View School typically hosts a summer school experience in July for students within the TDSB with physical and/or developmental exceptionalities.
Summer school is a 1/2 day program which students enroll through an application process.
Summer school provides experiences in social, physical, art, music, as well as outdoor play.
Gym/Physical Program
The gym program is essential for the students of Sunny View as it is important for them to move, stretch and exercise their bodies as it helps their muscle tone and flexibility and it also provides them with experiences in various adaptive sports.
Students, based on their abilities are able to experience volleyball, hockey, basketball, curling, riding bicycles and trikes using adaptable equipment. etc. Many students also benefit from the comfort of foam mats when out of their wheelchairs or walkers. All of this equipment is more expensive than typical gym equipment so your donations will help to purchase some of this equipment for the students.

Pysio/OT Equipment
The majority of the students at Sunny View experience difficulties with mobility and use walkers or wheelchairs. Specialized and adapted Physio/OT equipment is mandatory for the students as it enhances positioning, accessibility, sensory integration, self-regulation, mobility and movement.
The students have needs which, with this equipment can often develop and improve skills, improve muscle tone and increase strength. Adaptive equipment may also allow students to independently perform a variety of tasks such as eating, drinking, communicating and moving their bodies in wheelchairs, walkers or trike's, bikes.
The Sunny View School Charity through their donors helps to purchase different types of equipment based on individual/group needs.

Communication
Sunny View School believes that communication is a basic human right, the basis for social interaction, learning, and essential for our students’ quality of life.
Some of the student's speech may be unintelligible or difficult to understand and many are non-speaking often related to physical, neurological and/or developmental challenges often requiring augmentative or alternative communication (AAC) strategies, techniques, and/or devices to help them communicate more effectively, efficiently, and/or independently.
Being able to communicate effectively is also critical for helping students express and regulate their emotions and behavior.
The Sunny View School Charity funds speech generating single switches which are used to communicate simple messages, or they provide the means to access toys, music and books which help to improve their communication skills, provides independence and allows increased participation in the classroom program.
